We have heard nothing but horror stories about being at AFWA, but we were pleasantly surprised when we got here. The area has every store and restaurant you can imagine (except Chik-fila) and even though it's minutes from Omaha it still feels like a small town. There are tons of museums and the zoo is world-class. They also have a minor league baseball team and several hockey teams. It is VERY homeschool friendly. Nebraska state law is very lenient and there are many homeschool groups, organized sports and other activities. The weather is good and bad - 4 seperate seasons. They do a pretty good job of clearing the roads of snow. Base housing is the worst I've ever seen, but new privatized is on the way. Most people buy or rent. There are alot of affordable homes, even for Jr. Enlisted. As for rude people, I've never been anywhere were there aren't rude people. There are nice people here too! OH - and the base gym is the best I've ever seen - an indoor track, a play area with cardio equipment around it, a lap pool, batting cage, etc.
