What can I say about our time in Groton... dissappointing! Not only are the people very unfriendly, there is hardly anything to do. It was nothing like how we had imagined New England. Groton could be "anywhere" in America. There is a mall nearby but it's kind of old so if you want a better selection you have to drive 45 minutes to West Farms near Hartford. Housing isn't that great either. The maintenance people are wonderful but we have had a lot of problems with our place... ants, mice, windows that won't open (or close) etc. They are building new houses if you're lucky enough to get one which have air con and some other nice features like automatic garage doors.. we had to buy 3x window air con units which are noisy and pretty much useless. Communication on this base (especially medical) isn't that great... I have had many appointments that stretched into 2-3 hour events. The commisary is nothing special. I have had to return milk the day of purchase as it was already out of date, meat that smelt funky and fruit that had brown spots all over it... I could go on but I don't want to depress you. I wouldn't want to come back, maybe your experiences will be better but my husband and I have not really enjoyed our time here.
