Fort Stewart

Well, we have been here for 8 years and overall, it's not too bad. We have seen improvements over the last 2 years. We have a new PX and it's great . One thing I can say is that I don't care too much for this place or the weather. It gets very hot and muggy and there is a lot of humidity. I really don't care too mnuch either for Savannah because all there is to do is shopping and eating . We are hoping when the division get's back from their tour in Iraq that we can get out of here . The schools around I ndon't find them to be the greates. I think that this is one duty station that is definately NOT family oriented and ther is no support at all for the families when soldiers deploy. I live in the housing area and they are old and look bad. Pres. Bush came here in 2001 and said that this was the wordst base that he had ever been to !!! That should say something. They are remodeling but of course that is taking them years. They built new quarters but you have to have 3 to 4 children to live in them !! I don't recommend this duty station for the reason that there is a high rate of deployments. Rumor is that the Division will be going back to Iraq for the 3rd time . Hopefully we won't be here for that . Living off base , most of it is DIRTY AND BAD !!!! Anyone wishing to come here remember that the rate for deployments here is very high . Overall though I have made the best of the Army life .
