We enjoyed it!!

Elmendorf AFB

We just left Elmendorf AFB after being stationed there for 3 years. We really enjoyed Anchorage. Yes, the winters are long but the summers can be wonderful. Our housing on base was old and is in the process of being torn down. New housing is being built. Although we did not buy a house off base, resale value seemed very high for friends that did. We had a wonderful experience with the schools. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place for you. Skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. If you are into fishing or hunting this is a paradise. Anchorage has several Wal-marts but no Targets or Kmarts. Restaurants include TGIFRidays, Outback, Chili's and many others. Cost of living is high. The commissary on base is a nice size with good hours. Large hospital on base. Our daughter was delivered there and it was a positive experience. As with any base, get involved. Winters will be long if you don't get out of the house. We had a wonderful church at the Anchorage Baptist Temple. Would recommending visiting this church along with the Marriage Builders Sunday School class if you are looking for a church home as well. Hope everyone has a positive experience as we did.
