From reading some of these things, I can see that everything's all relative because there are so many different opinions so don't take all the negative to heart and decide on your own whether or not you like a place! As far as the Naval Weapons Station goes, I don't think it's a horrible place. My husband and I live on base and the houses are actually pretty nice and spacious. From what I've seen, there's never a wait for housing so if you choose to live on base you shouldn't have to go on a waiting list. I've been to larger commissary and exchange stores but the ones here aren't horrible. We feel out of place as most families on base either have kids or are much younger than us (we are 23). I have found it extremely hard to get to know people here for that reason and also for the fact that my husband and I both work very long hours and don't get out much. I hate the area around the base...Goose Creek is extremely trashy in my opinion. South Carolina as a whole can be a shock if you aren't used to the south...get ready to see a lot of confederate flags, horrible drivers, and slow, slooooooooow paced life. I can't even explain it. Sometimes I feel like someone threw me in a time machine. I have been bartending here and my customers are amazed at how fast I can get things done for them and my coworkers make fun of me for being a crazy Midwesterner that can't relax. Downtown Charleston (about 25 minutes away) is beautiful though and there are so many museums and historical places to visit.
