Hurlburt Field AFB

Hurlburt Field FL

Hurlburt Field is my first base. We've been here for five years. The weather is o.k. in the winter and spring, it can actually get cold here, but the summers are hot and humid. I don't care for the humidity or the hurricanes for that matter. We've been evacuated two times which isn't that bad, if you consider it a paid vacation, but they can be scary too. We have kids and found that the base has a lot of things for them to do. The base itself is well kept, nice housing and play areas, lots of places to walk. Commissary was just remodeled and the BX is small but just across town is Eglin AFB which is a alot bigger. I wouldn't recommend living in their base housing although people stationed on Hurlburt do have that option. Their is usually a waiting list to get on at Hurlburt. We bought a house off base and it's gone up in value over the last couple of years. The beaches here are awesome, beautiful white sands and clear water that is warm in the summer. Oh and the schools are great too, just about everyone of them in our community is an A school. FL also has a voluntary pre kindergarten class that is free for all 4 year olds. There are a lot of deployments at this base, family support has a great program for deployed families, where they get them together for an evening to talk and it's always enjoyable for moms and kids.
