Welcome to Fort Leonard Wood. #1 in Training! lol

Ft. Leonard Wood

The base itself really isn't that bad a place. We came from Fort Hood to here and this is heaven compared to that hell hole. But it's still not awesome or anything. On post housing sucks. Many people (including me) are having a mice and ant problem. Housing offices suck, the people are mean. They are unorganized and you have to wait at least 3 months to get a fence put up. They are building new housing that is really nice. They are almost finished building a new PX. Much larger that what we have now. The hospital is good. The daycare is great. But they have very strict guidelines (meaning they are paranoid, but for good reason). There are lots of parks and a walking trail. The other soldiers and families are, for the most part, nice and courteous. The only thing I hate is that the training barracks is right with everything else. So, you have to be careful of the trainees walking around (yes, by themselves! The Army is changing). Lots of different people from all branches are here. Off post housing isn't too expensive. Obviously, the nicer the more expensive. You have to travel a bit to get some real fun in. St. Louis is only an hour and a half. But it's not hard to keep yourself entertained around here. There is not much crime and it does have a friendly atmosphere. I rate it an ok place to live.
