Eglin is a really nice base. beautiful beaches that arent really crowded. there is a gulfarium, zoo not far away, fishing, dolphin cruises, great shopping. there is a mall but not far away in destin and sandestin there is more stores and outlets. there are lots of places to eat, hotels, and really nice people. Most people anyway. we have lived in two kinds of housing here on this base. the first housing we lived in was a 2 bedroom and it looked bad on the outside but was ok on the inside. a lot of the houses here dont have carpet. also there was a garage but it was not attached to our housing. although it wasnt far, we could see it out our back door.as far as the yards they arent very big in the 2 bedroom housing we were in. the 3 bedroom was nice. there is a carport and a little utility building. we had a big yard and gas instead of electric. the base has a pool, bowling, movies, parks. i always took my kids for walks to the park in our housing. there is recreation place on base where you can rent canoes and things like that. also there is a little beach on base. some houses are actually on the water. overall this is one of the best bases. the only thing i can say that i have had problems with is getting dr. appts when you really need them. but other than that its been great!!
