Minot AFB, ND

My husband and I were stationed at Minot AFB from Aug 03 - Jun 07. I wasn't excited about PSC'ing there because of all the bad things people said about the base and the area. After moving into base housing (which is very nice because all the houses are either being torn down and rebuilt or renovated) I went out to find a part- time job on base. I found work at the Arts & Crafts Center. Since I wasn't happy to be there I might as well find a FUN job. Working part time allowed me to hit the fitness center (which is only a year old, great equipment)5 times a week. I had no excuse for not exercising. So if you want to get into shape and lose a few pounds, this is the base to motivate you. The Fitness Instructor, Courtney Campbell, is a wonderful instructor. Anyway, I chose to work on base rather than downtown. The winter brings blowing snow flying from every direction, the roads are already icy and very slick, and the southern people who don't know how to drive in snow are sliding all over the road into the ditches. Hwy 83 (the main highway from Minot to Minot AFB, 12 miles) during bad weather is very dangerous. Dress warm and have a survival kit in your vehicle just in case. The people are very friendly and will stop to assist you if needed. The summer was nice and warm and there is A/C in the newer houses. When PCS'ing, go to that base with an open mind and make the best out of what is in front of you. You are in control of your own happiness. Also, check out the Arts & Crafts Center to learn a new craft! Their scrapbooking supplies are OUTSTANDING!!
