My husband & I did not like Fort Gordon at all. The post is very small & housing is old & ugly. They were building new housing when we left, though. The civilians that work for the Army are very lazy & don't get anything done in a timely manner. The ER at Eisenhower is extremely slow. My husband waited in there for 12 hours one night.
Augusta is large but not so nice. Very run down & ghetto. There is a very nice mall & a lot of restaurants, but make sure you stay in the nice part of town. The riverwalk is pretty cool.
There are several suburbs of Augusta. We lived in Hephzibah. Apartments are pretty affordable.
Atlanta is about 2.5 hours away.
The weather is very humid in the summer, fairly mild otherwise.
Overall I don't ever want to go back. The people are racist (against white people) & rude. You can't get anything done on post, & traffic off post is crazy. People drive slow on the highway & fast on side streets.
