It is what you make of it

Fort Hood

5th year here as of November. I've lived in the scum of killen, the so-so of killeen, and 3 housing areas on-post. I watched Kouma, Commanche 3c, newer WFH, and 3 schools built on base in that time. Killeen can be overcrowded. If you can afford the gas/mortgage or rent, look towards south of the airport (grk) or 'cove/kempner, Gatesville to reside until housing is available. Sometimes you can get lucky and get in quick. This base really is all about who you know. Depending on the unit the FRG's can be Awesome and so can be company. New spouses, stay away from the 'partyers', those days will haunt you the rest of the time you were here. Even if all you did was sit on your ass while they did whatever. This base is known for being a Blackhole. Once you're you can't leave, or if you do, you'll be right back here again in a few years. Family activities are in abundance. Childcare can be great if your willing to look into a FCC approved home. The waitlists at the CDC's can be very long. PITT mixes were just banned (no new registers after last month) for all base housing. Civilian PCM is the way to go! especially those expecting! Drive the 45min to temples' scott & white hospital or get into the Metroplex system. Smile at everyone, makes them wonder what your up to :D
