Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA.

Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA.

Well, what can be said about Moody? I was tricked into coming here by my husband (he switched his list without talking to me, knowing that I didn't want to come to this part of the country)that being said, I will try my best to be true to what it really is like. Valdosta is a college town, and military town, if it wasn't for both, it would be dead. The thing I dislike most about here is the kid of jobs available for me (the spouse), and the fact that it's not about IF you will deploy, but WHEN. Aside from that, the base is nice, the BX is decently sized and so is the commissary. The medical group is a pain in the butt (even though they are said to be so proud of it). I cannot have a doctor outside of base without going there firs but it takes quite a few weeks before I can get an appointment, and by that time, whatever I have is either gone, or I had to go to a walk-in clinic. I've had problems with my shoulders and had to go there 3 times before they decided to take and x-ray, which would be the VERY FIRST thing my doctors would've done. They are also said to give away gigantic pill bottles all the time. We don't have kids, but I do know they have very many schools in the area (not sure if they're any good). There's a lot of opportunity to enroll in classes (both military and spouses) they have 3 decent colleges right in town. Jacksonville and Tallahasse are 2 hs away. Atlanta 5, Orlando 3 and Florida west bay about 4. The area is considered the "plantation area" very country-like, very southern and so not me. The bars are nasty, I love bars but here I don't even feel like going out, they're full of drunken college students, nasty places with hot beer. You end up at chain restaurant bars (BWW, Outback or Applebee's). I also have found the Family and Readiness Center very bad, they were supposed to contact me for some classes, welcome tour and other things, but they never did, it's been 6 months. They have some free classes from time to time, and they do have plenty of activities going on though. For kids, family, trips, etc. The ITT is also very cool, gaming room, NFL games, bowling tournaments and good food. I did try to come here with a clean mind and tried to make the best of it, the place feels ran down to me, people are very nice, weather is ok if it isn't Summer (I hate Summer/heat/humidity), no snow whatsoever, blue skies most of the time (but with weekly Summer thunderstorms. That's all based on my point of view and if you do enjoy things that I don't, I believe it would be a good base. My husband has never been home, but the last 6 months, and he's probably deploying before long and i cannot wait to get out of here, if I could I would pack my bags and leave tomorrow, but that's me.
