Eielson AFB

The weather right now is beautiful, 30's at night and 50's during the day. The trees are so beautifulwith bright yellow, orange and red leaves. Well there isn't a lot to do here on base, but if you like to ride ATVs, snowmobiles, ski, ice skate, play hockey, baseball, football, soccer, camping, fishing, boating, berry picking (blue berries, raspberries, and cranberries), wild life watching i.e. the Canada geese, bears-from a distance, moose in your front yard munching on veggitaion during the winter, Ravens are huge like a turkey, hunting is really big here, skijoring, dog sleding, state fair in Fairbanks during the summer, Farmers market, eating halibut, and salmon, Play Groups for the moms with children birth-4 yrs., Craft Fair(spring and fall). Well then this is the place. The people are very friendly, help you out when you need a sitter, or help moving furniture. The schools are great on base. The schools off-base are okay but its just easier to send them to school on base. The housing is expensive off-base and they aren't very nice looking, you usually are using well water, and oil for heating. The best places to live on base is really any of the housing most of it has been remodled, and there is a park on every corner and in most back yards. There are lakes to canoe in and one even has a WWII B-29, I think, airplane that crashed into it. We like it so much that we extended here for 2 more years. I hope you like what you hear.
