Mrs

Ft Wainwright-2nd page

I read several other statements regarding housing on Wainwright. I'm shocked at the accusations of lead paint and asbestos. So I checked my Resident's Handbook and it reads "No lead based paint has been used in quarters since 1977, units have been painted at least 4 times..." Which they believe makes it safe. Anyway, on the issue of asbestos, I, again, quote my Resident's Handbook, "asbestos is NORMALLY found on heat and water piping in BASEMENTS, it has been encapsulated and is NOT a hazard to residents as long as the covering is intact...." With those issues being clearly explained in the handbook, I don't understand the fears of the other statements to this website. I have not encountered any raw-sewage floods. Nor have I heard of any from my friends here. I have no true complaints about my housing. I believe the asbestos/lead complaints have no real basis. But if you are still concerned about this, contact the Ft Wainwright Environmental Office at 907-353-9686. If you get the opportunity to come to Alaska, take it. It is very nice. As far as domestic violence goes, I heard it is hard here. This Post is not hiding that fact but trying to combat it. They offer a lot of different activities to get people out and about. I believe that an abusive spouse is abusive regardless of where they are located.
