We love it here

Fort Huachuca

My husband is stationed at Ft. Huachuca and we LOVE this town. The winters are mild (cold at night but sunny ALL the time) and the summers are not too hot (we're at 4500'). The rains are nice in the summer (there are monsoons in July and August) and the mountains that are on post are very very beautiful. Sierra Vista is the adjoining town and has about 40,000 ppl in it, though it seems to be one endless fast-food joint. It's a small town, and Tucson is an hour away and has everything you could want, night life and great restaurants, malls. Sierra Vista has pretty much 2 malls, one with a Wal-Mart and one with a Sears and Dillards (that's 'the mall'! You can check it out at www.themallatsierravista.com). Tucson has great malls, and it's a nice drive to get there. This is a great place to save money, since you don't necessarily want to drive an hour every single time you want to go out, so you just do something in town. Honestly, we don't frequent the clubs a lot here in Sierra Vista, there's not much to speak of. The neighbouring towns are really cool, too, they are the 'wild west' of America, with references to gunfights and that sort of thing. Tombstone (remember the gunfight at the OK Corral? That was in Tombstone, 20 miles away). Now, we live off-post, and we actually MAKE money living here, with the BAH. My husband is an E5, and I think we get $704/mo for housing, so we live in a HUGE 2 bedroom apartment (Vista Village Apartments on 7th St., the biggest apartments in Sierra Vista, ours is 950 square feet) and pay $540/mo which includes everything except phone. Nice for when you crank the heat or the A/C, you know you're still going to pay one flat rate. Mostly, we just like it here because it's a cheery place to be all year round, like I
