Moody is located 3 1/4 hrs south of Atlanta, lots to do there...2 hrs from Jacksonville and Tallahasee Fla, 3 1/2 from Disney World.
Wild Adventures Theme park is 35 min away, a really nice family park. Valdosta is home to Valdosta State University, and Valdosta Technical College (which offers great tuition assistance for military/spouses).
It's subtropical, although it is way too hot for this upstate NYer! There are a variety of festivals and fairs throughout the year that are within an hours drive. The area is close to the Okefenokee Swamp; there is a wildlife refuge adjacent to the base. There are a couple state parks within an hours drive (or so), and the Atlantic beaches are approx. 2 hrs east. The town is family oriented and most people are pro-military. Many people retire from Moody and settle here. If you want to enjoy your time here, you can.
