I really like Hurlburt Field. It is small, but Eglin is across town with a hospital and bigger BX. Hurlburt always has nice landscaping and was up for best base this year. The housing is much nicer than my miltary brat hubby has seen. They are always doing little projects to improve the quality of life. This year all three housing areas, main, sound side and Commando Village get new pllay equipment for the parks and play areas in the housing areas. The commisary is small, but very clean and has good prices. The BX is small too, but like I mentioned before Eglin is just across town. The base has lots of activites my favorite being the Sound of Independence in July. They shoot fireworks off a boat in the sound and you sit right on the beach wathcing it. The family service center is great! The area has plenty of beaches and water activites. Pay is not so good for civilians, but rent and stuff isn't too bad for what you get for BAH. Overall it's a nice area and we want to make to come back again.
