I have read the other two comments concerning this base and truly I guess it's all relative to what your looking for. The people here are great and most of them have a military background or work at the base. As for rent, there are few places off base to rent and I suggest you buy a home here if you wish to live offbase. As for pricing, I would say average, considering I came from Wasington DC where a 3 bed 2 bath in a safe neighborhood would run $1800 a month. The schools here are great, they actually teach my children in school rather than babysit and send them home with 3 hours of homework for the parents to help with. This is an outdoors, sportsmans paradise for hunting and fishing. The base and town itself, however, is not on a mountain as the name would suggest, rather we live on a desert plateau with plenty of sage brush and wind. The weather is quite hot in the summer, but it is cool in the evenings. I have not yet experienced a winter here. I must say so far I am very impressed with the people who live here and the atmosphere this small town has offered. If you need to shop at a mall everday, this is probably not the place for you, but Boise is 43 miles away and offers most anything you need. Young, single, individuals will have the least fun here, as there is not alot of activity for this age group. If you are looking for a small, quiet town to raise your family where people actually care about things, then you will love it here. After 14 years in the military I am very happy with my assignment here and will stay as long as my assignment personnel will allow. Best wishes.
