Aviano AB, Italy is a great place to live. You get the Italian experience while living with your fellow Americans. There is so much to see in Italy, that is within driving distance, that a 4 year tour is nowhere near enough time to fully experience Italy. The Italians love having us here, and treat us like family. The base does offer government housing, but there is usually at least a 1-2 year wait for it, depending on your circumstances. The economy housing is gorgeous, and if you take the time to look you will have no problem finding something that meets your needs. To get an idea of what is being offered, www.avianoclassifieds.com is a good site to visit. There you can find houses for rent, cars for sale, job openings and different services. You will make more money living overseas than you do being stationed in the states. The utility bills are due once every 2 months, and cell phones are the best deal in Italy. They are all prepaid phones, and you do not HAVE to sign a contract. While you are there, be sure to go to Camp Darby in Pisa and visit the Leaning Tower. It is cheap to camp there and they also offer day trips to Rome! If you choose to visit Venice, please take the train and go yourself.
