GOODFELLOW!

Goodfellow AFB TX

Goodfellow has to be the best kept secret in the military. It's a training base in west central Texas, in the fascinating town of San Angelo. The base is peaceful and quiet, as there haven't been any aircraft operating there for many years. The old flightline is mainly used for running and PT formations. The base is operated by the Air Education and Training Command and the mission is centered on tech school for intelligence, special instruments, firefighting, and other career fields. The weather is very dry and hot in the summer, with the occasional thunderstorms that can sometimes get ugly, and mild winters. San Angelo is a wonderful town...not to big for people who love small town life...and not to small for people who want lots of things to do. The housing is great... there's a housing area located on the base, and a housing area annex 10 miles away at Lake Nasworthy...people talk bad about the on-base housing and wait months longer for Nasworthy housing, but I lived on-base for over a year and LOVED it, and still miss living there. I live at Barksdale now, and it's okay, but my heart stayed at Goodfellow. I served four years in the Air Force, and spent all of it there. My husband re enlisted and now we've moved, but I hope to return there someday!
