Ft. Meyer has one of the best commissaries around. The food court consists of two choices, and the BX is small though. They give you a choice of off base apartments to choose from. Most all are small and expensive, barely covered by your housing allowance, and about half of them have no washer or dryer. people in the DC area don't seem as friendly or family oriented as other places we've lived, and we had a hard time adjusting. My suggestion to enlisted families is either to live on Ft.Belvoir, or at the very end of one of the metro lines. The farther away from the capital the better. Lots of museums and attractions to see, but not much money to do it with.
