Living in the Bay

Travis Air Force Base

Living on Travis Air Force Base has definitely been an experience. One thing I had to get used to quickly was the weather. Being from the south, I had never experienced constant flunctuations in temperatures before. Sometimes it is quite pleasant during the day(70's or 80's) and all of a sudden here comes the night and the temp. literally drops to the 40's and 50's. The season does start to become a little bit more regular towards the summer and it can get pretty warm here, even tipping over a 100 on some days. The allergy season is also pretty bad here, so that's definitely something to consider before relocating here if you know that you already suffer from allergies. I don't want to make it sound as if things are all bad, because they are not. The people on the base are great and we have a strong, friendly, and supportive community no matter what the rank or branch is. We have a great gym on base and a bowling alley, movie theatre, skating rink, youth center (and teen center), parks, and so much more on the base. There is something here for every member of the family to enjoy. Living off base is another story. It is quite expensive to live off the base here in Northern California. However, there are many things to do that are close to the base. You can go to San Francisco or Sacramento for the day. Or you can drive to the beach or go hiking through the redwoods. And if you like to have a little more fun and gamble Reno is less than 2 hours away and fishing is no problem because there are many lakes(including Lake Tahoe) that are nearby. Skiing is also an option that is very close to home. Well, I think i've written enough. Thanks
