When we were stationed at Ft Hood, it was nothing but misery from beginning to end. All the rumors about Hood being the worst duty station had been true for us---I guess it's the luck of a draw but we were not lucky at all for the 3yrs we were there. Then again, it's what you make of it. The enviornment of Ft Hood is very dreary, like the life got suck out of it. There is no color scheme, everything there is brown---even the people look miserable! The list for housing is about a year long and the off site apartments are getting more expensive, pretty old---15+yrs for most of the apartments. Lots of new homes to invest in though, being that they are building a new airport out there. The cost of living is pretty inexpensive though. I wouldnt say there isnt anything to do there but not much amusement stuff in arms reach. Everything in Texas is a long drive away. Houston is about a 4hr drive, Dallas is about 3hrs, Austin is about an hour or less---Austin is beautiful should you decide to stay to live but expensive cost of living.
Over all, we are VERY GLAD TO BE OUT OF THE PLACE---GOD AWFUL IN OUR OPINION!
