Ft Hood& NAS, New Orleans

NAS, New Orleans

First of all NAS,New Orleans is very nice and quiet. The weather is nice and the new houses are beautiful. They are townhouses styled ,some with balconies and well kept by the contractors. I was very lucky to have moved in a brand new home with garage and all amenities.( All new housing has garage and amenities) There is pest control and lawn maintenace and your own private back yard. The neighbors are nice and there is a walking trail and playground area in each section or nearby for kids. There is an academy on post, daycare, gym, and small shoppette. There is a mall about 10 miles, 3 walmarts, kmart, movie theater, flea market and you are about 20-25 minutes from downtown new orleans. There are also other schools around(elem. and high school) about 4 miles from base. I am from Louisiana and only 1hour and half from my hometown. It was really nice and I lived there for 1 year and was sorry that I had to go. I wish that I could go back . There are jobs in the area also . Now I am here at Ft Hood ,Tx and I hate it, I have been here since July and we had to find a place off post and I don't like it, we live in Killeen around the downtown area ,close to post. There are no jobs here and if you quit your job to move here to be with your spouse ,no unemployment. I can't wait to leave this place. Wrong impression of a big base.
