I grew up in SLidell, LA which is a suberb of New Orleans. The city of Valdosta reminds me alot of home. You are within 3.5 hours of Orlando, Tampa, and Savannah. Tallahassee and Jacksonveille, FL are also only about 1.5 hrs drive. The city is great, it just achieved metropolitan status last year, and business are popping up all over the place. The weather is awesome! Very mild winters, and hot summers. The county schools are excellent, especially Dewar and Hahira. There is a theme park called Wild Adventures here, but its nothing in comparison to six flags, disney, or universal. The base is very small, and the BX is really tiny. We live off base, so I can't really comment on the base housing, but from what I've seen it looks pretty gross. In sum, I love living here.
