I've been in for 17 years and have had my share of duty stations. Carson-awesome! Lewis-awesome, if you're single. Hood- you'll hate it at first, but miss it like hell when you're gone. Sill- great if you like the projects, tornadoes, and hot weather! But Ft. Bliss takes the all time "suck award"! The nearest city is Alamagordo (about 50 miles, if you want to call it a city), off post jobs? Forget it, unless you can speak Spanish. The only type of culture here is Mexican. Everything is Mexican. Not to sound like a racist but my goodness! The Army should give us foreign duty pay, beacuse it seems like we're in another country. Ft. Bliss itself is horrible.
The PX is nice, but along with William Beaumont and DENTAC it's full of retirees trying to save a buck! No priorty for soldiers and families, but retirees get top rate service. As far as training, if you're not Patriot, you're a nobody. It's like no one realizes that there is a war going on! If you're coming to Ft. Bliss and can change your orders, DO IT! Go somewhere nice like the bases I named above.
