Everybody wants to go there...or so we've been told. The high points of Langley include being within an hour's drive of Virginia Beach, less than a 1/2 hour drive to Williamsburg. Busch Gardens was a lot of fun. DC is about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs away, depending on traffic. There was some pretty good shopping at two malls that were close by and then an outlet mall that was about a 45 minute drive. Other than that, my husband and I were glad to leave Langley. There are way too many people there between two Army bases (one is set to close, Ft Monroe), a naval base, an Air Force Base, and the retirees. The traffic is really, really bad and some of the drivers make NY cabbies look like saints. It is difficult to get a doctor's appt on base because of the overcrowding. I've been told by more than one person than Langley is not family friendly. We don't have kids so I don't know firsthand about that. The Langley AFB housing community is off base and the houses are really old...not too horribly bad, just old. They have lots of storage space, which we are missing right now. Some of the houses have been remodeled on the inside and they are ok. If you want to live off base there are plenty of apartment communities and housing developments close by. Overall I would not write off Langley completely. I don't really have a desire to go back but if we were sent there again, I can think of worse places to go.
