Ft.Drum is very pretty during the summer. The winters are long and cold. Snows ALOT! If you dont like snow and cold, this isnt the place to go. The post is huge, very spread out. But very clean and pretty. Housing is abundant, you can live on post or offpost in govt. housing. The nearest town is Watertown, has a mall and a few stores. Walmart, Kmart, Sams Club, ect. And 1 major restraunt, Applebees. This place could use more restraunts. Syracuse is an hour away, and has MANY malls but you cant get there often during the winter due to blizzards and white out conditions. There's no schools on post, so they go offpost. Canada is 30 miles away. This post is not the best we've seen but certainly not the worst. I wouldn't want to retire here.
