PORT HUENEME CBC, California

PORT HUENEME CBC, California

I am a 21-year-old military spouse, married 2 years to an active-duty Navy Seabee. Since we do not live on base, I can't say anything much about on-base housing (Both on Port Hueneme and Point Mugu), but we drove through the neighborhoods and they look very cute. They are mostly apartment-style (in Hueneme) however, and for us, that wouldn't work. But if you don't have any pets and don't need a lot of extra room, I would recommend that you get put on the Port Hueneme or Point Mugu housing waiting list. Point Mugu has real houses and they looked just darling!!! We live in the Camarillo housing complex in Camarillo, the houses are pretty old (like mid-60's maybe???) but they aren't that bad, very ugly on the outside!!! You have a big backyard here, and can have pets. The base in Port Hueneme is pleasant. Palm trees, coastal trees, and squirrels galore!!! The commissary is excellent, but better then the one in NAS Lemoore Ca, the Exchange is huge, however I am NOT impressed with the "care clinic." It is NOT a hospital. It is small, and good luck getting the service you're getting at NAS Lemoore. Lots of shopping around here (if that's your passion in life), some agriculture, fresh produce, lots of business opportunities, good universities and schools, but there is some crime . . . . as most larger cities have. Personally, I am a real cowgirl who is use to small-town/ranch life, and all of this is overwhelming to me. But most women have a "black belt in shopping" and if you're one of those, you'll love it down here. Personally, I've found that there's better things to do in life then shopping. (Like go horseback riding on the beach or in the mountains, camping, fishing, gardening, learning, etc. etc.) Home this profile has helped someone!!!
