Okie Dokie

Fort Lewis,WA

I have lived on Fort Lewis for just over 3 yrs. now and I must say that it is wonderful here. It rains (mostly a drizzle) a bunch... but, is still nice. The people are really nice and there are a ton of things to do. It is a very "high speed" kinda post. Almost too much to do. There are zoo's, aquariums, the mountain, the ocean, wolf and wildlife haven's all over, and a ton of places to shop. The malls here are nice, and there are restaurants around every corner. There are so many different kinds of places to eat here too... from Korean to greek and even italian. One of the best though is the fact that they have recently opened a Krispy Kreme right in Tacoma (about 7 minutes away). I hadn't seen one since we were in Savannah,GA (lived there for 3 yrs.). There are many places to rent... pretty good rent prices and alot are really close to the post. We live on post and there is nice housing here. Some better then others. We live in Old Hillside. We were fortunate to get a home at the end of the housing community (there are like 5 or 6 communities on post) and we are one block from the elementary school. I love that the schools here are on post (until the kids hit middle school). I have quiet neighbors and have never had a problem with my housing, in fact I only have 1 child I have a 3 bedroom. This style of housing ... you get an extra room if you only have 1 child because they start with 3 bedrooms. The PX and Commissary are great and there is a skating rink and a bowling alley right here on post. Many things to do here. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate this post a 7 overall. It would be an 8 but, we are so far from family that it's a LONG drive to visit. GO 3RD Brigade!!! Jessica
