We've been here for 1 1/2 years, and it's been okay. The people on and off base are nice, very friendly. Jobs are impossible to find, though. The BX is tiny, you have to drive 15 miles to the super-walmart to get anything at a decent price. There is no hospital on base, but the pediatric doctors at the clinic are wonderfull. Just be prepared to have horrible treatment if you have to go downtown to the (only) hospital. The county schools here are great, city not so good, but they have got the most screwed up way of figuring out where your kids go that I have ever seen. It took us two months to get the city schools to figure out where to send my first grader, and another two weeks to transfer him after they realized that he should have been in the county in the first place.
The base is very family-friendly, and the area is pretty. As long as you have plenty of patience and no high expectations for city-type attractions, you'll enjoy it.
