Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor, HI

This is our 2nd time in Hawaii and we love it. The people here are incredible, we made so many friends that have since became part of our o'hana (meaning family). There is quite a bit to do here, you just have to find it flea markets, beaches, museums, etc.. Jobs can be hard to get, but now it is like that in every state not just here. The new NEX/Commissary is the biggest in the world and stocks a lot. Plus you can do good comparison shopping with all exchanges within 45 mins of each other. You must see the Arizona Memorial, it will make a realization in your life of how lucky we are. Please try to see it soon as we are losing so many WW2 veterans each day. The best beaches we found were at Hickam Beach (next to the airport so you get to watch all the planes including fighter jets take off, along with the ships coming in and out of Pearl Harbor), Ko'olina (3 individual bays that are peaceful) and Bellows (both military and civilians can go). The tax here is only 4.116% so while some things are more expensive it can work out evenly in the end. especially coming from a state where it is over 8.5%. The plate lunches here are awesome, an international food market that is delicious. And they are reasonable. You do get the COLA so that helps on expenses. It is a place you either love or hate there is no inbetween. And it is hard being away from family and friends. But your home is where and what you make of it. So take some time to come to paradise!!
