Vilseck, Germany

We've been stationed here in Vilseck, Germany for the past 6 yrs. now and we are already a bit sad to be leaving here soon. Our first child was born here 2 1/2 yrs ago and we are having our 2nd one here also. The post itself is kinda small, but kept clean and housing is pretty nice, too. We don't have central air, but due to the short summer here in Germany it's really not a must, either. Maintenance for appliances is also great. The rooms are big and yards comfi. Our Px is nice and is open till, I believe, 8pm. The shoppette is really nice and is open 24/7. Weather........nice summers, about up to 90 degrees and winters can get pretty cold. It is the 2nd of Jan. and we are at 30 degrees. The economy is awesome. The nearest city would be Amberg which is about 25 mins. out and just great shopping opportunities! We have 2 lakes on post, a nice day care center, ITR offers nice tours to castles, Czech (cheap, cheap shopping woooo weee), Italy, crystal factories........and much, much more. The people here are just a gotta get used to, but after a while it's cool. The hospital off post is great! Very clean and the German way of care is just awesome also, especially if you will deliver a child in this country. We are looking forward to our next duty station, but regret not being able to stay here any longer. Give it a try, it's very worth it!
