Spent all the time that we're in Hood praying to get out. Looking back it really wasn't as bad as we thought it was. We did finally endup with nice base housing (renovated McNair Village). Arriving at Hood was scary the first time we had a small apt that we actually shared with another couple cause none of us could afford a good place in a good area on our own. Finally found a really nice place in Harker Heights, our friends found one Copperas Cove, and noone wants to live in Killeen itself. The school district was very good (and almost always hiring from aides to teachers). And now we can honestly look back at that duty station (our first by the way) and almost miss it.
Other posts are right though, most of the people are rude, they have horrible driving skills, most business are geared souly to find a way to get your money, and the off post housing is way over priced for crummy apts. But once you get on post its like a whole other world, I once went 2 months without leaving post for a single thing.
