MCAS Beaufort

It is very nice down here (I'm from Northern Indiana). The weather starts getting warm around April and the coldest it has been this winter is aroun 25 degrees. There is Parris Island Recruit Depot here where the commonsary is and housing for DIs for about a 20 min drive. We also have a Navel Hospital here with housing for them. The Exchanges are nothing to brag about though and a good mall is in Savannaha,GA for about a 30 min dirve. There is bowling, the theater, gym and 2 daycares between the Air Station and housing. The housing here is not controlled by the Military but a private company. The main houses are old but they are working on updates and have been building new townhouse that are very nice. If you are coming here for the first time, make sure to tell housing you want to live in Laurl Bay NOT Pine Grove. There are 3 elementary schools in housing and middle and high school kids get bussed to public schools off base. The cost of living for rent is high unless you can handle living in a trailer. Jobs are ok but the pay is low and the hours don't work for many spouses if you have kids. We have a super Walmart very close to base, Charleston is about 45 mins, and it's about a 6 hours drive to Flordia for Disnyland. The people are very nice here and it is fast paced for driving and easy to learn your way around. There are many inlets to the ocean with beaches and the nearest beach on the Ocean is about 20 mins away-very nice!
