i have been reading all these posts about northern alaska, and its soo sad to see how much people dont like it there! i have also seen poeple talk about the base housing and the asbestos and the lead in the paint, well just wanted to let ya'll know that its EVERYWHERE!! pretty much every old house on ALL bases have asbestos and lead paint! there is nothing you can do about it though! its all sooo old that it really cant do anything any more is what we were told at Elmendorf AFB by the housing office. And as far as the pipes bursting because they were so corroded, have you ever thought that maby they burst because it was so cold out that they froze?? not be rude or anything, but it happens in the winter, thats why sometimes you need to leave your faucet dripping so you pipes wont freeze. take my advice, alaska is a very beautiful place to li ve and i wish to god we could go back! i just hate the winter! LOL its really not that bad, you just have to know how to drive in it! i drove a mustang durring the winter, and had no problems! like others have said, it what you make of it, you have to make it fun and go out and find things to do. if ya'll ever have any questions about what there is to do there in anchorage or have any questions about the base, email me any time! 03stang@cebridge.net hope you enjoy your time there!
