FORT RILEY, KS

FORT RILEY, KS

Fort Riley, KS is a very historical place. There are a lot of 'old' buildings made of stone and the base is quite large. My husband and I live out in Junction City and we like it here. There's a Wal-Mart Supercenter along with a few Dollar stores and your infamous take-out restaurants. It gets very hot/humid during the summer months. The base has everything to accomodate you, however the commissary is by itself. Normally it's next to or near the PX. The PX is ok, nothing to boast about. If you plan to come here, be prepared to have at least 2 cars. There's NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, unless you plan to pay an arm and a leg for Taxi service. If you love hiking/nature/fishing/boating, then you'll enjoy it here. Tuttle Creek and Milford Lake are the best spots and are the best places to hang out during nice weather. Topeka is about an hours drive give and take a few depending on traffic and road work, but Topeka is the place to go for shopping. Manhattan which is north of Fort Riley is deemed the college town. Don't be suprise to see everyone wearing Purple or seeing Wild Cat sillouhettes everywhere. There's a small mall there and quite a few restaurants too. A bit pricier than J.C. but worth the trip.
