Schfield Barracks

Schofield Barracks

I read an awful review of Schofield. Time for the other side of the story...Housing offices in the Army are the pits-period. Always run by hateful women with no empathy for military wives. But Schofield Barracks itself was awesome. We lived there for 4 years (extended) and miss it still. If you like the most beautiful flora, fauna, sandy beaches (Bellows AFS was the best!), and friendly "aloha" spirit-attitude locals then you will love it here. We never tired of our back "lanai" framed by palm trees and hibiscus. The housing was circa 1940 but you can bet it would withstand any Hurricane to hit the island. Home is home. If you have orders here, accept the differences, don't compare to stateside bases and have some Kalua Pig, Shave Ice and Pineapple for me. Don't forget the most awesome Recreation Center in the Army-The Hale Koa Hotel located in prime real estate Waikiki next door to the Hilton. Fireworks every Friday night and birds and ginger plants along every path. Hilton-$150-350 a night, Hale Koa Hotel for military only-sliding scale based on rank starting at $50!
